About Us

After a life-changing vacation to the Berkshires in the summer of 2019, Link and Sophy were inspired to buy a farm when they retired. Upon returning home, and hearing their friend’s news that they would be moving to Harding, the wheels started to turn and they fast forwarded their plan by 20 years. They found their perfect home set on old, colonial farmland in New Vernon. Fortuitously, they moved in right before COVID hit and used the time in quarantine to design their farm. After a lot of research, too many hours of agricultural, instructional videos and a small library of books, a plan started to emerge. They designed the farm to be a self-supporting ecological system. Instead of using the traditional farming method of tillage for bed preparation, they went No Dig-a non invasive way to build farm beds that protects the subterranean food web. This approach doesn't damage soil structure, doesn’t cause compaction, and the balance of symbiotic and mutualism interactions among soil life is preserved. The upfront time and effort (Link, a shovel and a wheelbarrow) is massive, but the ecological benefit is invaluable. And this is the way Featherbed Farm is able to grow beautiful, organic vegetables for their community: Farm to  Face :)

Welcome to Featherbed Farm!
